The dogs were comparatively quite during the night but sleep was not coming as it should anyhow. We went up as usual and Maria decided to stay home for the day. The morning meeting was little attended and I could not hear what they were reporting. The round was uneventful and I emptied the ward of some well patients. In a Swedish hospital they would have been kept in the ward for malnutrition, but here they are considered well and can be fed at home. I have hard to adopt that meaning, but the parents are very clear on the subject. The little boy with the wound in the thumb-grip did not want us to see the wound but we took away the wet dressing and looked. It was a deep wound but no signs of infection. I think a surgical physician will want to revise the wound in a fortnights time so we will send him home with dressings and things an make him come back in a fortnight time. The afternoon round was no round only a moment of control.
On the ninth of September we were discussing the English doctors and what they should be used for. The discussion was a bit inflamed as Richard pointed out very clearly that he was no surgeon. What will come out of this is unclear. In the ward there was a child 2 months old that should have a operation. The referring doctor had said in an almost unreadable scribble that the patient should have a cosmetic circumcision. Te risks wit an anesthesia in a so young patient is obvious and Rich did not want to have a pert in it. I supported this and the child was sent home without any operation. A complicated humeral fracture near the elbow with a lot of deviation was referred to Ndola. We sent some home and some stayed. I had a rather lively night as my stomach turned outside in. After 10 visits to the toilet and 7 tablets spposed to sto the gut I feel better now at night. I have spent most part of the day on the bed, while the garden boy was burning the garden down. It was quite a bonfire. Now at eight o clock we can still see some glowing tinder in the bushes.
